“MAAMBA COLLIERIES DUST ENDANGERS MINERS,COMMUNITY”

Government has given Maamba Collieries Limited in Sinazongwe district a three-month ultimatum to buy appropriate dust measuring equipment to curb respiratory diseases for miners and the community.
Ministry of Mines Director Mine Safety Gideon Ndalama has further advised the mine to engage a qualified Ventilations Officer to interpret results.
Speaking after a tour of the coal Mine, Mr. Ndalama expressed concern with the high level of uncontrolled dust which he said has a health effect on miners and the community.
He advised management to use water pumped from its underground operations to maintain a green environment.
And after touring Maamba Collieries, Mr. Ndalama said he will arrange with management to share its green environment initiatives with Collum Coal Management.
And Mine Manager Ketson Munthali said management is looking at procuring a water bowser to suppress dust.
