LWSC will not be able to pump water from Kafue to Lusaka for four days, says Nshamba Muzungu

THE Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company says it will not be able to pump water from Kafue to Lusaka for four days.

Company Public Relations Officer Nshamba Muzungu says this is because Zesco has shut down its power supply in Kafue which in turn will also lead to water interruptions in Lusaka as the water treatment plant in Kafue will not be able to transmit the commodity to the city for the period being.

“This is after the power utility company ZESCO issued a shutdown notice of Kafue town in order to facilitate works on the existing 88kv busbars on the 29th and 31st July and 2nd and 4th August 2016,” Muzungu says.

“This means that Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company will consequently not be able to pump water from Kafue and transmit to Lusaka during this period as there will be no power at the water treatment plant.”

Muzungu says most part of the city will experience water supply interruptions.

He has since advised all its customers to prepare for the shutdown and ensure that they store enough water to see them through the stated period.

“We however expect all the areas that are not supplied with water using the Kafue main line to have normal supply,” says Muzungu.

And the Public Relations Officer has has assured the Public that the supply of the commodity will be normalised as soon as ZESCO works are completed on 4th August as well as when the water reservoirs have been filled to the minimum distribution levels.
