GOVERNMENT has threatened to revoke Prophet Shepherd Bushiri’s mining licence if he fails to apologize for attacking a senior government official.

Copperbelt Province Minister Bowman Lusambo in a statement today has given Shepherd Bushiri a seven day ultimatum to tender an apology to Religious Affairs and National Guidance Minister Godfridah Sumaili and to Zambians as well as tothe people of Lufwanyama.

Lusambo says the failure by Bushiri to apologize will attract sanctions which his MinistryI will recommend to the Ministry of Mines including the possible revocation of his emerald mining licence.

Lusambo further says by attacking a senior government official, Bushiri’s has breached the provisions of his investment code in Zambia.

“Bushiri should be made aware that the Reverend he has chosen to publicly rebuke is a high ranking government official in the administration of His Excellency President Edgar Chagwa Lungu and therefore deserves the highest form of respect,” Lusambo says.

“As Government, we will carry out a forensic audit on the operations of the emerald mine owned by Bushiri as part of measures to ensure that the interests of the Zambian people are safeguarded.”

Lusambo has added that as much as the Zambian Government is keen on promoting both local and foreign investment, the guiding principle still remains that the national interests should be the corner stone of any such engagements.
