LUSAKA, 20TH JUNE, 2017 – A woman aged 38 years of Hill View in Lusaka’s Chalala identified as Mailess Maunda died while her son aged 19 escaped with injuries after they were attacked and robbed of their money by criminals whose motor vehicle the victims booked between 2100 hours and 23 00 hours yesterday.

The victims who were coming from their shop at Mana Mall in Chilenje had booked a cab , Toyota Corolla white in color with unknown registration number and as they were proceeding home, the driver of the motor vehicle diverted going towards the direction of town.

The criminals who were armed with knives strangled the victims and robbed them of a bag which had undisclosed amounts of money and later dumped them near intercity bus terminus where they managed to book another taxi which rushed them to Chilenje Hospital.

Maunda sustained bruises on the face and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Chilenje Hospital while her son sustained injuries.
The body of the deceased is in Chilenje Hospital mortuary. Investigations have been instituted in the matter.

It is because of such criminal activities that this country enacted laws that demand for all motor vehicles operating as taxis to be registered and labeled as such. Lawlessness in the transport sector where people want to advocate for unregistered taxis puts the lives of unsuspecting clients at risk. We urge members of the public to always book registered and well labeled taxis from taxi ranks to avoid falling prey to criminals.
