Lusaka Provincial Division One ends as Sabobo takes home the golden boot

The tightly contested and very congested season finally came to an end for the FAZ Lusaka Provincial Division 1. The league that kicked off on January 10, 2021, saw 306 matches played within a space of six months.

Most interestingly, Zambia U-17 National team forward Joseph ‘Sabobo’ Banda emerged as the top goal scorer of the season with 15 goals beating his closest rival Michael Musonda of Young Green Buffaloes who finished on 14 goals.

Banda’s goal in Athletico Lusaka’s 2-0 win over Sable Bulls guided the boy to an 8th position finish on the table. Sabobo will pocket K5,000.00 from the pledge of the Zambia National team and Arsenal Tula striker Evans Kangwa as an award for the young lad.

The champions showed how prepared they are to represent the province in the playoffs with a 3-0 win over Airport Warriors at Green Square ground. A brace from Paul Chibambo and a goal from Davies Chingoni guided the Army side to 21 wins in the season and claimed 72 points from 34 games they played.

Airport warriors finished in 7th place with 47 points.

Second-placed Lusaka City Council scored 2 goals in the first half to beat Chainda Bombers 2-1, thanks to goals from Siakalima Chikaile and Ocean Malambo. The men in yellow of Chainda found consolation through Besum Banda.

What a story, a Kalilo faithful would want to hear as they concluded their campaign with a home 1 nil defeat to Paramilitary. The Cornwell Munyati coached side went into the game with a 5 game unbeaten run that made their chances of escaping relegation high only to be stopped by the Zambia Police side on a final day.

With the looming threat of four teams to go into the abyss of relegation, Kalilo Celtic may find themselves on the exit door of Division 1 soccer as they seat on number 15 with 37 points after playing 34 matches while Paramilitary finished on number 9.

In other matches, Young Zanaco banked 3 points against Irwin Rangers in a 1-0 win. Thanks to Mike Sibande’s 38-minute follow-up strike from the goalkeeper’s mistake.

Young Napsa suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of the neighbors Vector FC and the relegation derby of Chongwe United and Kabwata Dynamos ended in a 1 all draw.

At Crested Crane Academy, Shamuel and Riflemen settled for a barren draw, the similar result was recorded at Katwishi Ground between Misisi Youth Academy and Happy Hearts.

However, some games are still on the tables of the FAZ Disciplinary committee following the abandonment for various reasons with Chongwe United and Misisi Youth Academy being the most affected teams.

The rest of the results are as follows:

Kalilo 0-1 Paramilitary (Kelvin Mbewe)

Young Green Buffaloes 3-0 Airport Warriors

Irwin Rangers 0-1 Young Zanaco (Mike Sibande)

Athletico Lusaka 2-0 Sable Bulls (Sabobo, Majapa)
