Lusaka FAZ Women’s League: Eight star Eagles end first of the season on top as Luyando, Pataaki, and Lusaka Queens chase from a distance

The 2020/21 FAZ Lusaka Provincial Women’s League over the weekend reached the halfway mark of the season as it entered week 15 of action and yet again league favorites and unbeaten Green Eagles Women Football Club recorded another impressive result as they thrashed Lusaka Red Lions 8-0, In-form NAPSA Queens edged Mapani 3-1 to maintain a 6-match successive unbeaten run while Lusaka Queens won bragging rights in the Chilanga Derby as Luyando Foundation and Pataaki shared spoils.

Log leaders Green Eagles handed struggling and bottom-placed Lusaka Red Lions Women a humiliating 8-0 beating which was one of their heaviest defeats of the season.

Red Lions who were the hosts at Twikatane Sports Complex had to succumb to goals galore from enterprising Natasha Nanyangwe who grabbed a hat trick while Trynes Changwe had a brace with Racheal Moono, Saiduna, and Dorcus Seya who opened her goal-scoring account providing the other goals for Eagles.

This was the 13th victory of the season for the coach Simon Kayombo drilled lasses who have now amassed 40 points on the log standings with a remarkable 45 goals scored against 3 conceded going into the second round of matches this weekend with a game in hand.

At NAPSA Sports Complex, NAPSA Queens extended their unbeaten run to 6 games in succession after they edged Mapani Queens 3-1.

Tangala Girls goalpoacher Faustina Ndelelwa scored a brace while Bernadette Daka had a goal to her to make it 3-1 for NAPSA against Mapani Queens scored their consolation through Lister.

At OlympAfrica Ground, Garden Youth bounced back to winning ways as they recorded their fourth victory of the season after they defeated Chibolya Sports Academy Girls in a six-goal thriller.

Zambia Women’s Under-17 speedy winger Dorica Malunga produced a player of the match performance as she scored a hattrick while captain of the side Violet Zimba scored her second goal in succession to make it 4-2 for Garden Youth while the hardworking Hellen Mukuka grabbed a brace for Chibolya Sports Academy.

The surprise package in Lusaka, Football Chance Foundation Girls handed Misisi Queens United a painful 2-1 home loss at Katwishi Ground.

Barbara Chewe and Doris Musonko were on the scoresheet for Football Chance while Tamara Mtonga scored the only goal for Misisi Queens who lost 2-1.

At Naboye Secondary School Ground, Kafue Celtic Queens bounced back to winning ways after they defeated ZANACO Ladies 2-0 thanks to captain fantastic Edna Mbembela and Margaret Chilekwa’s goals for the coach Zizwatchi ‘Zifa’ Mseteka drilled lasses.

The action continued on Sunday with three mouthwatering encounters across the capital city.

At Chinika Secondary School Ground, Luyando Foundation Girls welcomed Pataaki Girls in a battle of 2nd and 3rd placed teams sharing the same number of points and only separated on goal difference.

Stubborn Girls Pataaki managed to pick a point away from home against a determined Luyando side as they shared spoils in a goalless draw.

Twikatane Queens recorded their third victory of the season after they silenced King Sports Academy Girls 2-0 at Twikatane Sports Complex.

Twikatane found the back of the net through the skillful Precious Malama and Esther Phiri to inflict a 2-nil defeat to King Sports who suffered their 10th loss of the season.

The super Sunday match in Lusaka was in Linda Compound as Progress Sports Club played hosts to Lusaka Queens at Mt. Makulu Secondary School Ground in a Chilanga Derby.

The Queens of Lusaka stole the limelight via a 2-nil victory thanks to goals from current league top goal scorer Ruth Ngoma and Tina Mungabwa with the two important goals for the coach Killian Kataatisha tutored girls who won bragging rights in this match against a lackluster Progress Sports Club who have had a difficult run especially from the time they released almost half of their players to other teams in the women’s super league to end the first round of matches on a lower note.

Green Eagles will end the first round as Log leaders with 40 points followed by Luyando Foundation Girls and Pataaki Girls who are joint on 33 points in 2nd and 3rd place respectively and only separated on goal difference.

Lusaka Queens is 4th with 30 points with NAPSA Queens closing the top 5 blankets with 26 points from 12 games played.

Kafue Celtic Queens are 6th with 26 points, 4 above Football Chance Foundation Girls and Mopani Queens who are in 7th and 8th position respectively.

Misisi Queens are in 9th position with 18 points while Twikatane has 14 in 10th position.

Chibolya Sports Academy and Garden Youth share 13 points on positions 11 and 12 respectively.

Occupying 13th position is Progress Sports Club with 11 points while King Sports, ZANACO and Red Lions are all rocked on 7 points on position 14, 15, and 16th respectively to complete the table in Lusaka.
