Civil Right Activist Laura Miti has questioned President Lungu’s decision to declare Friday a holiday which means Zambia will have five days holiday since Thursday and Monday are holidays.

Miti says:

“I am still trying to understand why on earth the President would declare Friday a holiday. What about productivity? What about planned events, overtime payments, cost to the economy? I know that Caritas Zambia had their strategic plan launch set for Friday. What happens to the preparations, money spent? Just why would holidays be given out like sweets? Workers who wanted to make a long weekend of it could have taken a leave day. Is this a case of a the President not understanding the cost to the economy of holidays?”
