Luanshya woman in court for being married to two men

A 38 YEAR OLD woman of Kamirenda Township in Luanshya has appeared in the Ndola High court for bigamy.

“Bigamy is the act of getting married to another person, yet you are still married to the other party.”
The offence is contrary to section 166 cap 87 of the laws of Zambia.

Jacqueline Inabanza Mutale, 38, a nurse at Roan General hospital, and of house number KR 547 denied the charge when it came for plea before Judge Davies Mumba on Thursday.

Particulars of the offence allege that on July 24, 2014, in Luanshya, Inabanza, whilst having a living husband namely Samuel Makungu, did go through a ceremony of marriage with Lewis Mulenga during the life of such husband.

The court has since entered a plea of not guilty. Inabanza is on police bond.

Mr Justice Mumba warned Inabanza, against missing court session as she has been eluding court for the last three court sessions.

“You keep missing court session and yet you are within reach. Next time you do that I will be left with no option but to revoke your bail so that you nurse your 11 days old bay from custody.”

“I don’t like the behavior exhibited by you of wasting the court’s time. This matter could have progressed by now. Ensure that you respect the court’s time and always be in touch with the state advocates,” Mr Justice Mumba said.
