Livingstone City Council presents ‘unacceptable’ report to Parliament

Mary Kachepa-The Parliamentary Committee on Local Government Accounts has reprimanded Livingstone City Council for presenting a report that does not meet acceptable standards.

Committee Chairperson DARIUS MULUNDA says the report which is below standard makes the Committee struggle to understand it.

Mr. MULUNDA says any pilferage of resources will be punishable this time around.

He says it is unacceptable for receipts to go missing adding that councils must endeavour to do the right thing.

Mr. MULUNDA says it is unfortunate that it has become fashionable for City Councils to appear before the committee when they are supposed to lead as examples for town and municipal Councils.

He was speaking when Livingstone City Council appeared before the Parliamentary Committee on Local Government Accounts in Lusaka today.

Meanwhile, Committee Member, MISHECK NYAMBOSE said it is unfortunate that the Council has taken a Laissez-faire attitude in the administration of the local authority.

In response Livingstone City Council Town Clerk, GETRUDE CHIBILITI said the local authority has identified the areas of weaknesses and assured the Committee that it will work on the challenges.

Ms CHIBILITI said her council did not appear before the committee in the last audit and it will ensure it does not appear for the next audit.
