Kitwe Derby promising sparkes

By Joy Nyambe

All is set for the Kitwe derby this weekend, with both Power Dynamos and Nkana promising sparks.

Speaking during the pre-match press briefing in Kitwe today, coaches from both sides expressed confidence in carrying the day.

Power Dynamos Coach OSWARD MUTAPA said the derby will be tense but that he expects a good result.

MUTAPA added that the match will set the pace for his team, which has not given up on the title defence despite being nine points behind league leaders Red Arrows.

And Nkana Coach IAN BAKALA said the pressure is on their opponents who are the defending champions but that he is going for an outright win.

BAKALA also assured that the 13-time league champions will fight relegation as they have improved tremendously since he arrived at Nkana.

Meanwhile, Power Captain GODFREY NGWENYA said his side will have no sympathy for Nkana as they are eager for a win, while Nkana Midfielder STEVEN CHULU said the derby will be a different ball game, with the Wusakile boys carrying the day.

And Zambia Premier League Manager BRIAN MULENGA said the decision to take Zambia’s biggest football derby to Levy Mwanawasa stadium was imminent because the derby has been exceeding the capacity of both Nkana and Arthur Davies stadium.

MULENGA justified that every time the derby is played, the two venues are filled to capacity, thereby denying a lot of people access to watch.

MTN Regional General Manager ELIAS CHEMBE reiterated his company’s commitment to supporting local football and nurturing talent in the country.
