Health authorities on the Copperbelt are concerned that cases of cholera in Kitwe are not reducing despite measures put in place to prevent the spread of the disease.

The affected communities are Ipusukilo, Wusakile and Kwacha Townships.

Copperbelt Provincial Health Director CHARLES MWINUNA says in the last 24 hours Kitwe has recorded 10 cholera cases.

Dr MWINUNA said health authorities have intensified distribution of chlorine and sensitisation but that he is worried that the community is not adhering to the health guidelines.

He said it is worrying that the disease has not been brought under control and that his office has engaged the water utility to open some kiosks to provide people with clean drinking water.

He has encouraged the community in the affected areas to strictly follow the health guidelines and ensure proper hygiene standards to control the spread of the disease.
