KBF Says Mulungushi Re-Opening Not A Political Gimmick

Kabwe-Zambia-600x377Patriotic Front says the re-opening of the Mulungushi Textiles in Kabwe has nothing to do with elections.

And Patriotic Front deputy chairperson for Elections Kelvin Fube says the party reckons whoever votes for the PF will will also vote “Yes” in the referendum.

Meanwhile Fube said the partnership of Edgar Lungu and Inonge Wina going into the August 11 elections was unbeatable.

Featuring on a Special Elections programme on Radio Phoenix Fube said plans to re-open Mulungushi Textiles had been long on the cards but alleged they were mishandled by former Defence Minister Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba who handed the facility to Tanzanian traders.

President Edgar Lungu re-opened Mulungushi Textiles on Monday as per promise he made to the people of Kabwe during a public rally.

“Mulungushi Textiles was supposed to be re-opened a long time ago. There was a legal challenge and despite someone who was Defence Minister messed up and gave it to traders from Tanzania,” he said.

The Zambia-China Mulungushi Textiles was closed nine years ago.

On the referendum Fube said the process had been deliberately distorted by the opposition despite the process calling for improved rights for the citizenry.

“Basically the question is about; ‘do you want your rights to be enhanced?’ people want to claim this is about gay rights. In the preamble of the Zambian constitution we are a Christian nation, we also have things in there in the proposed bill of rights that life begins at conception so you cannot just abort anyhow,” he said.

“Marriage is recognized as between two people of the opposite sex aged 19 years and above so there is nothing like gay rights.”

He said that the bill of rights had not introduced gay rights.

Fube said it was baffling that political parties were asking voters to vote for them but urging the electorates to vote “No” on a law that will expand their rights.

Fube said those in doubt on the process should go with what their leaders were telling them in the PF.

“If they trust their leaders as much as we trust President Lungu, they should vote “Yes” in the referendum. Even in the United Kingdom people voted to join the European Union without understanding it. So what is wrong with us voting “Yes” in the referendum?” he said.

The referendum will be held alongside next Thursday’s general elections with persons aged 18 years and above eligible to vote as long as they have Green National Registration Cards.

Even those not registered as voters but are aged 18 years and above with a green NRC will be eligible to vote.

He said that the people that were condemning the rapid infrastructural drive by the PF were not being sincere.

Fube said the PF had laid the infrastructure with the second phase moving to job creating and industrialization.

The Lusaka based lawyer said the creation of 33 new districts since the PF came to power had created employment in the country.

He said the country has to go back to industrialization in the next phase.

“…although we know who killed our industries at privatization, we want to pretend but I don’t want to pretend. We have to get back to industrialization,” Fube said.

Fube said President Lungu was assured of victory in next Thursday’s elections.
