Kateka Concerned With Delayed Appointment Of Permanent Secretaries In Some Ministries

By Balewa Zyuulu

Opposition New Heritage Party President Chishala Kateka says the delayed replacement of permanent secretaries especially in the Ministry of Agriculture will affect the 2021/2022 farming season.

Ms Kateka tells Phoenix News that the Ministry of Agriculture is critical especially during this season hence any further delay in replacing the controlling officer will adversely affect service delivery.

She explains that although the government has appointed an official to act in the position of the permanent secretary, such an official is limited in action on certain critical decisions that require an actual office bearer to make.

Ms Kateka has also stressed the need for President Hakainde Hichilema to appoint technocrats who have risen through the ranks and file within the ministry as they are the ones with the know-how of the challenges and how to address them.
