KASANDA DISMISSES FALSEHOODS

Government has noted with concern the misinformation and falsehoods being peddled by the opposition Patriotic Front -PF- on several issues regarding the economy in general and on strategic national assets in particular.

Chief Government Spokesperson CHUSHI KASANDA says while Government is open to the opposition providing checks and balances, it wants them to do so with facts.

Ms. KASANDA who is also Information and Media Minister says last week a delegation of four ministers visited Indeni Oil Refinery and informed workers of the new business model to which the workers will be part of.

She says before transitioning to the new business model, all the workers will be paid their dues.

Ms. KASANDA says the deliberations of this meeting were widely disseminated in the media.

She says it seems the opposition political party is still bent on misinforming the public even in the face of clear facts on the table.

Meanwhile Ms. KASANDA says there are no plans to sell the power utility company ZESCO.

She says restructuring the company does not amount to selling it as the move is about improving operations and increasing efficiency of the power utility.

Ms. KASANDA says the Industrial Development Corporation -IDC-, which is the holding company of all State Owned Enterprises -SOEs, gave guidance on the issue early this week and was widely reported in the media.

And on the issue of Konkola Copper Mines and Mopani Copper Mines, the Chief Government Spokesperson said the Minister of Mines and his team are dealing with the matter.

She told ZNBC news in a statement that the Government is holding discussions with various stakeholders to come up with an amicable solution.

Ms. KASANDA said the Government is keen to have these issues resolved for the benefit of all stakeholders in the mining industry.

She said the Government is fully aware of the anxieties that the issues surrounding the two mines have caused on the Copperbelt and the whole economy.

Ms. KASANDA has urged all stakeholders in the energy and mining industries to exercise patience as the government deals with the issues.

She said once a definite position has been arrived at, the Government will inform the nation accordingly.
