Kasama Pastors Back Bill 10

(ZANIS)The Kasama Pastors and Ministers Fellowship has welcomed the resolutions of the National Dialogue Forum (NDF) to amend Constitution Bill Number 10 of 2019.Fellowship Chairperson Reverend William Mutale told the media in Kasama that Pastors in Kasama are also in support of the reaffirmation of Zambia as a Christian nation.Reverend Mutale added that the church in Kasama also wants the Christian values and ethics to be enshrined in the main constitution. He said the inclusion of the values and ethics in the main constitution will be a positive step towards building a strong nation.Reverend Mutale added that the fellowship is in support of the decision by the NDF to revise the period of hearing a presidential petition from the current 14 days to 30 calendar days. The Chairperson observed that the increase in the number of days for hearing a presidential petition will give people more time to present evidence and findings to the courts of law.Meanwhile the Kasama Pastors and Minister’s Fellowship has called for a reduction in the period given on which civil servants intending to seek political office should resign.Reverend Mutale said the two-year period given to those civil servants seeking to join politics should be reduced from two years to at least one year. The Pastors have also opposed the formation of the coalition government and the introduction of the Deputy Minister. The Parliamentary select committee is currently sitting to receive submissions from groups and individuals on the amendment bill whose recommendation will be tabled in parliament.
