Kasama Municipal Council Shuts Down Shoprite

Shoprite Kasama was on Monday shut down by the Kasama Municipal Council for alleged violation of the Public Health Act.

Council Assistant Public Relations Officer, Caroline Simumba said despite having been issued with a warning last month to address health nuisance, the supermarket decided to ignore the notice.

She said the local authority has on several occasions issued verbal and written notices but the supermarket has remained adamant to addressing issues raised.

Simumba has warned that the Kasama Municipal Council will not tolerate supermarkets that don’t follow procedure as they go about their businesses.

Management at the supermarket however refused to comment on the matter and referred all queries to the CEO who has been unreachable up to today.
