KAPEYA ACCORDED OFFICIAL FUNERAL

President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA has accorded the late Former Information Minister and veteran broadcaster MWANSA KAPEYA an official funeral.

And President HICHILEMA has declared Thursday February 16 as a Day of National Mourning in honour of the Former Cabinet Minister.

The President says this is in recognition of his contribution to the development of the nation when he also served as Lands and Natural Resources Minister under the Patriotic Front government.

During the period of National Mourning, all activities of entertainment nature on both Radio and Television should be suspended while flags must fly at half – mast.

Mr. KAPEYA 73, died on Monday February 13 at St Johns Hospital in Woodlands after a short illness.

The official Funeral Programme for the late Mr. KAPEYA will start with a requiem Church service at the Cathedral of the Child Jesus at 10:00 hours.

Government has however urged the public to adhere to the COVID 19 and Cholera guidelines during the funeral programme to prevent the spread of the diseases.

This is according to a statement availed to ZNBC News by Secretary to the Cabinet PATRICK KANGWA.

MEANWHILE, Information and Media Minister, CHUSHI KASANDA says the late Mr. KAPEYA served the country diligently.

Ms KASANDA says the country has lost a gallant man and the government is mourning his demise with the family.

She says Mr KAPEYA was a perfect example of a hard worker who rose through the ranks from Radio announcer to Director of Programmes at ZNBC, before he joined politics in 2011.

Ms. KASANDA who is also Chief Government Spokesperson was speaking when she visited the funeral house of Mr. KAPEYA in Lusaka today.
