Kanganja Directs Police To Act Swiftly To Stop Violence And Thuggery

By Balewa Zyuulu

Inspector-General of Police Kakoma Kanganja has directed all police officers to ensure that they act swiftly and bring to a stop the prevailing violence and thuggery as they are empowered by law to arrest and prosecute any person who abrogates provisions of the law.

In a statement, Mr Kanganja says it is appalling to see an officer being humiliated, in a video that has gone viral, by criminals under the pretext of politics.

Mr Kanganja says such hooliganism should not be left unchecked and has since directed the arrest of all those involved.

Mr Kanganja says following the concerns raised by the president-elect Hakainde Hichilema on political violence and cadres occupying markets and bus stations, it is critical for police officers working with the local authorities to ensure that take over the running of these business places.

The police boss says all police commissioners should ensure that they identify areas where such cases are prevalent and deploy more officers to curb the prevailing public misconduct.
