Kamangas out on bond following trio’s arrest by DEC

FAZ president Andrew Kamanga has been released on bond following his arrest with three others by the Drug Enforcement Commission in Lusaka.

Also out on bond is FAZ General Secretary Reuben Kamanga.

Others are Madalisto Kamanga and Jairous Siame

The quartet were arrested by DEC on Tuesday for various offences.

“The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has taken action by arresting and jointly charging two Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) officials and two other individuals for money laundering offenses,” read a DEC statement

“These suspects are facing charges related to obtaining money by false pretenses, obtaining pecuniary advantage by false pretense, and conspiracy to defraud, in accordance with the Zambian Penal Code,” read the statement

“DEC investigations have revealed that the accused parties collaborated to acquire K341,902.00 from the Zambian government under false pretenses.

“This sum was purportedly designated as allowances for Madalitso Kamanga and Jairous Siame to attend the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), with each individual receiving K170,951.00. Additionally, the duo obtained return tickets valued at K99,980.00.

“Further scrutiny has exposed that the funds were channeled to these individuals under the guise of being FAZ officials, necessitating their presence with the advance party for AFCON. Shockingly, neither Madalitso Kamanga nor Jairous Siame held any official or executive positions within FAZ.

“This illicit activity transpired between January 1 and February 15, 2024, coinciding with the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations held in Ivory Coast from January 13 to February 11, 2024,” read the final part of the statement
