KALUMBILA COUNCIL SUSPENDED

By Mark Ziligone

Government has suspended Kalumbila town council in North-Western Province for period of 90 days for going against the Local Government Act.

Local Government Minister Charles Banda says the town council has been suspended for inviting a named opposition leader to inspect Government projects without the blessing of Government.

Dr. Banda has expressed concern that during the inspection, the opposition leader and some councilors claimed that the projects were because of the hard work by the opposition.

He told journalists at a press briefing in Lusaka that councilors will NOT be allowed to perform their functions during the suspension period going forward.

And Dr. Banda appealed to North Western province Minister Nathaniel Mubukwanu to take interest in the matter in which senior members of Mufumbwe council physically fought over an unknown issue.

He said a meeting should be held over the matter because Government will NOT allow such kind of indiscipline among civil servants.

Meanwhile, Mr. Mubukwanu assured the Local Government Minister that an adhoc meeting has already been arranged over the matter.
