Government is impressed with the construction works at the KENNETH KAUNDA International Conference Centre in LUSAKA.

The facility is being constructed just within the grounds of the Mulungushi International Conference Centre. The facility named after former President Kenneth Kaunda  will be venue for the African Union Summit to be held next year in August.

Foreign Affairs and International Relations Minister STANLEY KAKUBO says the project will boost ability to host more international events once completed, at the same time adding beauty to the country.

Mr. KAKUBO was speaking when he toured the facility to check on the progress with construction works.

And the Minister has assured the Contractor, China Aid that he will engage ZESCO to ensure electricity is connected as soon as possible.

This follows an appeal by Chinese Ambassador to Zambia LI JIE that Power be connected to facilitate works at the site.

Meanwhile, Mr. LI said China will support Zambia’s capacity to host international events.

The Ambassador has also tasked the contractor to ensure safety is enhanced for employees at the construction site.

Mr. LI said the project is set to be completed mid 2022, just in time for Zambia to host the African Union -AU Summit in August.

And Mulungushi International Conference Centre General Manager NTANDO SIBANDA said the center offers Zambia a chance to divert businesses from other regions to be hosted in Zambia.

Mr. SIBANDA said this also offers employment opportunities due to space and capacity.
