K251 Million Released For Payment Of Retirees

Government through the Ministry of Local Government has released K251 million to the Local Authorities Superannuation Fund (LASF) to pay outstanding pension benefits that it owes to 14,709 retirees.

Addressing the media this morning, Local Government Minister, Dr Charles Banda said out of the K555 million owed to retirees and pensioners countrywide, government on 31st July 2019 committed to disburse K251 million before the end of September 2019.

Dr Banda explained that the release of the funds will help resolve challenges that retirees and pensioners are facing in order to uplift their welfare.

He has assured that government will soon clear the remaining balance of K304 million and will be following the roll out of these funds and payment with keen interest and expects a detailed report on the utilization of the released money.
