K20M RELEASED FOR NCHELENGE-CHIENGI ROAD

By ZANIS:Housing and Infrastructure Minister Vincent Mwale has disclosed that 20 Million Kwacha has been released to the contractor working on the Nchelenge – Chiengi Road in Luapula Province.And, Luapula Province Minister, Nickson Chilangwa says almost all the 12 Districts in the Province have been affected by floods.The Ministers were speaking after conducting an aerial assessment of the Province in the company of their counterpart Olipa Phiri, the Minister in the Office of the Vice President to appreciate the damage caused by floods.Mr. Chilangwa said the province has received above normal rainfall which has caused destruction on both infrastructure and crop fields.He explained that the floods have resulted in households being displaced as their houses have been submerged in water.And, Mrs. Phiri said she will submit a report to the Vice President on the floods situation in Luapula Province.She said according to the aerial assessment a number of fields have been affected by floods, a situation which is of great concern to government.Mrs. Phiri explained that government will definitely help all those households whose fields have been affected by floods by giving them relief food.Meanwhile, Mr. Mwale said government released the money to the contractor working on the Nchelenge- Chiengi road so as to enable him work on 32 most critical points along the road.He explained that the idea is to make the road passable before full construction can resume after the rain season.Mr. Mwale notes that the Nchelenge-Chiengi road is an economic one hence government is determined to ensure that it is in good shape.Mr. Mwale is happy to learn that the contractor who is Sino Hydro is on site and that works are progressing on well.
