JUDICIARY ENHANCES SKILLS TO FIGHT ILLICIT FINANCIAL FLOWS

BY RUTH CHAYINDA-

Chief Justice MUMBA MALILA has urged the judiciary to enhance legal interpretation and enforcement to combat illicit activities which negatively impact the country’s economic growth.

Dr. MALILA says the country is grappling with loss of resources through illegal activities, such as illicit financial flows, tax evasion, and corruption.

He says this is why his administration has identified some subordinate courts, presided over by carefully identified magistrates, to handle economic and financial crimes on a fast track basis.

The Chief Justice says the courts will progressively specialize and preside over economic and financial crimes and boost the efficient settlement of such matters.

Dr. MALILA said this when he officially opened a two day training for Judges and Magistrates on cyber, economic and financial crimes in Lusaka.

And Attorney General Alliance -Africa Representative FREDA BRAZLE said cyber, economic and financial crimes continue to negatively impact Africa’s economy.

And Advisory committee on training and continuing education Chairperson MUGENI MULENGA said training provides an opportunity to network and draw on international perspectives which would in turn enhance a better appreciation of economic and financial crimes
