JANNY SIKAZWE RETIRES

BY CHANSA KUNDA

Zambia’s top FIFA referee JANNY SIKAZWE has officially retired from active football at the age of 43.

SIKAZWE, who has had a 23 years referring career , says he has decided to step down to give chance to young referees to build a career.

He says his focus area now will be to impart knowledge and skills in the upcoming officials to also reach the heights he achieved.

Speaking during a briefing, SIKAZWE said his decision to retire was pre-meditated before the world cup as he wrote to CAF and copied to the Football Association of Zambia -FAZ-.

SIKAZWE has since urged upcoming referees to ensure they plan ahead, make intelligent decisions and command authority in every game.

And FAZ Vice President JUSTIN MUMBA has applauded SIKAZWE for his role in marketing Zambia’s match officiating credentials to the world.

MUMBA said SIKAZWE has been a role model to many sports men and women.

He said the FIFA referee has done a noble thing by retiring while everyone is still clapping.

And MUMBA said the Association will always be there for SIKAZWE and that the doors will always remain open for him to train others and give his expert views.
