Italy keen to share urban development tips

Sharon Kunda-Italian Ambassador to Zambia ANTONINO MAGGIORE says his country is ready to share with Zambia some ideas on urban development.

Mr. MAGGIORE says urban migration poses a threat in many cities and that it is gratifying that Zambia through the Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development has put in place measures to address such challenges.

The Italian Ambassador was speaking when he met Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Minister CHARLES MILUPI at his office to invite him to a Forum dubbed “Art and Architecture” to be held tomorrow at the Zambian Italian Cultural Centre in Lusaka.

Mr. MAGGIORE said the forum will have Italian Architecture experts who will share their expertise on Architecture and Urban Development.

And Mr. MILUPI said he looks forward to the interaction during the Forum on how the two countries can sustain collaboration in the field of Sustainable Urban Planning and Development.

He said it is his expectation that through the Forum engagements, the two countries will be able to explore linkages between Art and Infrastructure, drawing parallels and lessons from studies and projects conducted in Zambia and Italy.

Mr. MILUPI said the linkages and lessons will help Zambia in strengthening its urban planning and development, particularly in the wake of rapid population growth and climate change effects.
