Isoka under watch due to livestock diseases

(NAIS)-

The Department of Veterinary Services in the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock has mounted check points in an effort to stop the spread of livestock diseases in Isoka District of Muchinga Province.

Isoka has in the recent past recorded cases of suspected African swine fever and a confirmed case of rabies in a dog.

Isoka District Veterinary Officer PAUL MULOPA says livestock officers have intensified mobile check points in all the 6 veterinary camps.

Dr. MULOPA says the check points will help sensitize livestock farmers on what is supposed to be done when moving livestock.

He has told the National Agriculture Information Services that the move will also help discourage illegal movement of animals and control the spread of livestock diseases.

Dr. MULOPA has advised livestock farmers to be vigilant and report any illegal animal movement or sick animals to the veterinary office.

And ELIAS SINKAMBA a farmer of kampumbu vet camp said the check points will assist in protecting animals in the district from exposure to diseased animals .
