India-Zambia Business Council donates 556 bags of Mealie Meal

(ZANIS) The India Zambia Business Council has donated 556 bags of mealie meal worth 100,000 Kwacha.

Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit- National Coordinator, Dr. GABRIEL POLLEN says the donated mealie meal will soon be distributed to the intended affected beneficiaries.

Speaking when he received the donation from the India- Zambia Business Council -IZBC – at his office, Dr. POLLEN said that the consignment will complement government’s efforts towards supporting drought affected people.

He further explained that the low rainfall has negatively impacted many Zambians, leading to the President to declare the crisis as a national disaster and emergency.

And, India High Commissioner to Zambia, ASHOK KUMAR said the support by IZBC is a gesture of humanitarian to Zambia.

Mr KUMAR observed that the donation is as the result of the long bilateral relations that dates many years ago and is in the spirit and culture of India to give support to other countries.

Mr KUMAR has since pledged his continued support to Zambia in many sectors of the economy in order to further strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries.
