Impending Fuel Pump Price Hike To Further Cripple The Country`s Production Levels – ZAM

By Tinkerbel Mwila

The Zambia Association of Manufacturers -ZAM- has expressed concern over the looming hike in the fuel pump prices especially that the country is already struggling with the power deficit.

On Tuesday this week, Energy Minister Mathew Nkhuwa told journalists that fuel pump prices will have to be reviewed following the kwacha’s sharp depreciation against major convertible currencies.

But ZAM Vice President Chipego Zulu has told phoenix news that the impending upward adjustment on fuel will further increase the cost of production for manufactures and may lead to slow down in production.

Ms Zulu explains that the energy deficit has sent already many manufacturers to purchase gen-sets that use diesel as a mitigating measure to keep their plant running hence any fuel hike would hamper operations.
