“Illegal Beverage Producers Nabbed”

Lusaka, Zambia24 (12-04-2024) – The Zambia Compulsory Standards Agency (ZCSA) and the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC), in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies, apprehended five individuals from Precision Royal Beverages Ltd for illegal production and supply of beverages, packaged water, and immigration-related offenses.

According to a statement jointly signed by Onishias Maamba, ZCSA Public Relations Officer, and Mwenge Mulenga, DEC Public Relations Officer, the suspects were involved in producing and supplying packaged water and other beverages without the necessary permits from ZCSA.

“The individuals apprehended include Derrick Mukwemba, Jonathan Mukwaya, Geoffrey Kayemba, Mediotrice Habonimana, and Sameal Tusubire Mwanza,” read the statement.

During the operation, a large quantity of various beverages was seized, and the suspects were found to be operating without a license, violating the Compulsory Standards Act, and packaging water in unsanitary conditions, endangering consumers’ safety.

The statement revealed that Derrick Mukwemba, identified as a Finance and Administration Officer at Precision Royal Beverages Ltd, has been taken into custody to aid investigations and is expected to face charges, including tax evasion and money laundering-related offenses.

Additionally, three vehicles used in the illegal operation were seized by authorities.

The joint operation by ZCSA, DEC, and other government agencies highlights collaborative efforts to protect Zambian citizens’ health and safety, ensuring products meet safety standards, and holding violators accountable.

The agencies pledge to continue safeguarding citizens’ well-being through collaboration and vigilance, urging public vigilance and community involvement in reporting suspicious activities and curbing illegal practices.
