Home ownership a reality under UPPZ

 By Francis Maingaila

Central province (30-06-18) The opposition United Prosperous and Peaceful Zambia (UPPZ) today led hundreds of citizens for site viewing in Makeni West where they bought plots for building dwelling homes and business.

UPPZ national spokesperson Francis Kope told journalists during the site viewing that his party acquired the land where plots being sold are located through Brook Cherith Company chaired by its party president Charles Chanda.

According to Kope, the party acquired the lands for the purpose of empowering the people with land where to build homes as provided its party manifesto.

Kope explained that the land in question was genuinely acquired using legal channels as provided in the laws of Zambia.

“In its quest to reduce the housing deficit which currently stand at 1.6,  UPPZ engaged Brook Cherith, a company dully registered and encorporated under the laws of Zambia not only to acquire but also to develop plots on behalf of the citizens in dire need of housing units.”

He explained that the land which was acquired in Makeni west will accommodate more than six thousand people of which some of them that acquired the land were present to see the plots which they bought.

He explained that some of the people acquired the land which was on promotion during the international women’s day and Christmas holidays.

He clarified the promotion on international women’s day and Christmas which going at k10, 000 was for all citizens.

“The recent promotion going at K2500 per plot is only for UPPZ members.”

He added that any Zambia is free to join UPPZ and take advantage of this promotion on conditions that the person is a Zambian citizen.

Kope clarified that  the plots being  sold to the people are not only on title but certain services, including the construction of road and provision of water reticulation will be done for the clients.

“Currently borehole are being done to allow the people access the fresh water from underground. The company is now working towards connecting the area to the national power grid to enable the people access power.”

Further, Kope indicate in Zambia people have no problems in building houses.

“The biggest problem facing the people at the moment is the process of acquiring genuine land or titled land. With UPPZ,, this is not the case because all the “what if questions” have been taken care of already.”

Furthermore, Kope stated that the process of acquiring plots is that, once members pays, the offer letter will be issued to them after days before the surveyor’s diagram is given to clients.”

He added that once everybody has titles and begin to work, the land will be linked to the government to begin providing amenities including hospitals, schools and police posts on lands specifically reserved for such activities.

On each extension, Kope explained, there will be a provision for public facilities, including shopping malls and recreation.

“What we are trying to do now is to demonstrate that, it is possible for a party to provide to including homes to the people. If we as a political party is able to do all these things as demonstrated above, one wonders why successive governments have not been able to respond to the problems of accommodation which has led the country to high deficit in housing units as witnessed in Lusaka where the deficit stand at 1.6.

He said under UPPZ, home ownership is reality and urged those that want to be landlords not listen to detractors.
