HIV Epidemic Control in Sight

July 12, 2019July 12, 20196Zambia is on course in attaining HIV epidemic control by 2021.Health Minister, Chitalu Chilufya, says testing for viral load is important to monitor progress in the quest for epidemic control of HIV – the virus that causes AIDS.ZANIS reports that the Minister was speaking at an Abbott reception, an American Company that has manufactured the Point of Care Viral Load Testing lab equipment-Mpima, held at the American Embassy in Lusaka.Dr Chilufya pointed out that the introduction of the new equipment demonstrates that Zambia is making a right step in controlling the HIV epidemic which he said is significant in its aspiration for universal health care.And American Ambassador to Zambia, Daniel Foote, said the new equipment is a game changer in the fight against HIV and AIDS in Zambia and will help in saving many lives.Abbott Vice President, Willem Pretorius, noted that the Point of Care and Viral Load Testing equipment will help address many challenges faced by people in accessing viral load tests.Mr. Pretorius also commended the Zambian government for the progress made in ensuring more people living with HIV have access to HIV medication.
