Hichilema Is A Free Citizen-UPP…His Arrest Was Questionable

United Progressive People(UPP) says it still maintains that United Party for National Development (UPND) leader arrest and subsequent charge of treason was questioned.

Patriotic Front(PF) cadres are circulated a Diamond TV programme in where UPP leader Saviuor Chishimba said it was foolish for Hichilema to obstruct a Presidential motorcade in Mongu at the eve of the Kuomboka ceremony.

While Dr Chishimba’s interview with Costa Mwansa was making rounds on social media, the UPND was busy moving from one media house to the other dropping statements in which they have condemned President Lungu for the arrest of Dr Chishimba.

But UPP interim president Oscar Kabaghe said the party sympathises with Hichilema.

“We in the UPP are strongly concerned about the  interview in which our President Dr Chishimba was featured by Diamond TV on 3rd August which certain social media outlet have taken out of context. The UPP leadership maintains its position that Hichilema’s arrest was questionable,” Kabaghe stated in a statement made available to the media.

He urged the media to report responsibly and not to take issues of national interest out of context.

Kabaghe said Hichilema is a very mature and responsible citizen and the UPP will continue  respecting him as a citizen of a free country  Zambia who has been wrongly detained.

“We urge our members to maintain calm and pray for the release of Dr Chishimba and Hichilema speedily,” Kabaghe pleaded.
