HH: TRADITIONAL CEREMONIES KEY

 

President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA says traditional ceremonies play an important role in promoting a sense of belonging, nationalism and preservation of the country’s cultural heritage.

The President says the new dawn Government acknowledges that traditional ceremonies are a unifying factor as they provide vital a platform for Government and traditional leaders to interface and share ideas.

President HICHILEMA says Government has reaffirmed it’s commitment to continue to encourage traditional leaders to celebrate traditional ceremonies as a way of preserving the country’s national identity.

The President said this in a speech read on his behalf by Tourism Minister RODNEY SIKUMBA, during the 2022 Cuundu Cultural Fund, fundraising dinner held at Government complex in Lusaka last night.

President HICHILEMA, who was the first Chairperson of the Cuundu Cultural Fund, said Government has prioritized tourism as one of the key economic sectors with great potential to diversify the economy and create jobs.

He added that the UPND Government will continue to support traditional ceremonies as a critical component of cultural tourism.

And Cuundu Cultural Fund -CCF- Chairperson HELEN SAMATEBELE said the vision of the CCF is to promote the survival and sustenance of the rich cultural heritage for generations to come.

Mrs. SAMATEBELE fundraises in various ways to provide financial and material support to traditional ceremonies, and other Cultural events.

She has since appealed for support for the various traditional ceremonies practiced in all the parts of Zambia.
