HH HOLDS TALKS WITH AUSTRIAN PRESIDENT

President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA has held a meeting with the Federal President of the Republic of Austria ALEXANDER VAN DER BELLEN in the United States of America.

During the meeting, President HICHILEMA emphasized that Zambia is open for business in all areas of investment.

Speaking at the same meeting Mr. VAN DER BELLEN singled out tourism, energy, and agriculture as his country’s key sectors of investment potential in Zambia.

President HICHILEMA also met with the Rwandan Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Dr. VINCENT BIRUTA.

Dr. BIRUTA paid a courtesy call on the President at the behest of President of Rwanda PAUL KAGAME, who has since expressed the intention of visiting Zambia on a state visit soon.

President HICHILEMA called for Zambia and Rwanda to advance their collaborative relations and share best practices on building better, more resilient local, regional, continental and global economic partnerships.

In another round of talks, the President met with the George Soros’ Open Foundation Society in New York, United States of America.

The Soros delegation was led by Mr. ALEX SOROS, Deputy Board Chair, Open Society Foundations, Lord MARK MALLOCH-BROWN, President, Open Society Foundations, and Mr. YASIN YAQUBIE, Special Advisor to the Deputy Chair, Open Society Foundations.

During the talks President HICHILEMA stated the New Dawn administration’s commitment to institute constructive business environment reforms in areas of taxation, support for SMEs, protection of investment assets for businesses, as well as the push towards c
eating a green, knowledge-based economy.

Other key meetings held by President HICHILEMA include discussions with Ambassador LINDA THOMAS – GREENFIELD who is the US Permanent Representative to the United Nations, as well as holding talks with the US – Zambia Private Public Collaborative Health and
ducation Initiative whose delegation was led by Professor LISHOMWA NDHLOVU.

President HICHILEMA is later expected to fly to Washington, D.C. for meetings with the IMF, World Bank, and other bilateral and multilateral engagements.

This is according to a statement issued by Special Assistant to the President and Presidential Spokesperson ANTHONY BWALYA.
