HELSB Awards Scholarships To Over 1000 Students

The Higher Education Loans and Scholarships Board -HELSB has awarded student loans to over 1,000 first year students at Mulungushi University for the 2022/2023 academic year.

HELSB Senior Corporate Communications Officer CHISELWA KAWANDA says the board received 3,551 applications for sponsorship at Mulungushi University, out of which 3,448 applicants were eligible and 103 were ineligible.

Ms. KAWANDA says of the 1,087 scholarships awarded, 700 are from rural areas while 387 are from urban areas.

In terms of gender, Ms KAWANDA says 534 successful applicants are male while 553 are female.

She says  from the applications received, nine were from students living with disabilities, six being male and 3 females.

Ms. KAWANDA told ZNBC News that the ineligible applications were as a result of applicants completing Grade 12 before 2018, non-attachment of required documents to the applications and applicants being older than 24 years.
