HEALTH MINISTER OKAYS SCHOOL REOPENING

By Sharon Kunda- Health Minister Jonas Chanda has called on the Ministry of General Education to ensure increased surveillance in schools.

Dr. Chanda says his Ministry fully supports President Edgar Lungu’s stance that schools should re-open on Monday February 1, 2021.

He has however warned that the Ministry will recommend closure of schools that will be found not adhering to stipulated measures.

The Minister said this during the routine updates on Covid-19 in Lusaka today.

Meanwhile, Zambia has crossed the 50 thousand mark in the number of COVID-19 cases.

Dr. Chanda said 1,408 cases of COVID 19 have been recorded in the last 24 hours, representing a positivity rate of 10.4 percent.

He said 17 deaths have also been recorded during the same period and 1,489 recoveries.

The Health Minister noted the growing number of COVID-19 cases in Northern and Copperbelt Provinces.

Dr. Chanda said a high recovery rate of over 85 percent of COVID 19 cases and the reduction in the number of admissions to health facilities is encouraging.
