Happy Birthday Kalu the great

KALUSHA BWALYA|Retired Chipolopolo left-footed dead ball specialist and master-dribbler is arguably the most famous and decorated Zambian footballer to have ever graced the beautiful game in Southern Africa, let alone Africa and World over.

It’s basically his incredible pace and efficiency in front of goal which made him scoring goals look easy, earning himself the nickname ‘Great Kalu’, following the famous hatrick in Zambia’s 4-0 hammering of European giants, Italy at the 1988 Seoul Olympics.

King Kalu’s international career from 1983 to 2004, successfully won him the 1988 African footballer of the year award and the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations golden boot.

Great Kalu did not rest after hanging the boots. He took up the challenge of Administration and went on to win Zambia, Africa’s most prestigious trophy the AFCON in 2012, following a short stint as coach-player and heading Chipolopolo technical bench at 2006AFCON.

From humble club football backgrounds of Mufulira Blackpool, Kalu’s love and passion for playing soccer took him places including Cercle Brugge of Belgium,Psv Eindhoven of Netherlands, America,Necaxa, Al Wahda, Leon, Irapuato, Veracruz and Correcaminos, just to mention a few.

Today August 16th we look back and wish to join the soccer icon in celebrating this important day.
