Govt urges farmers to rear climate resilient livestock

Government has advised farmers in Petauke district to embrace innovations that promote the rearing of livestock which can cope with changing climatic challenges.

Fisheries and Livestock Senior Coordinator CHRISBORM MUBAMBA, said livestock farmers should adapt to new innovation that can improve the production of livestock amid climate change.

Dr MUBAMBA said this during the monitoring of the World Bank supported Zambia Integrated Forest Landscape Project -ZIFLP- project being implemented by the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock in Petauke district.

He said under the programme, over 15-thousand improved chickens were procured and distributed to 1,542 poultry farmers in the district.

And a beneficiary, MATILDAH BANDA of Minga area in Petauke, has commended ZIFLP for supporting farmers with an alternative livelihood.

Ms BANDA, who has been empowered with the improved village chicken breed, said the poultry business was giving her a marginal profit and has boosted her income.
