GOVT URGED TO ESTABLISH LEGAL FRAMEWORK FOR FUTURE OIL PIPELINE CONTRACTORS

The Oil Marketing Companies Association of Zambia-OMCAZ- has appealed to the government to establish a proper legal framework for players that will be contracted to use the yet to be constructed oil pipeline.
The new pipeline is expected to receive 6.5 million litres of fuel from the Tanzania-Zambia Mafuta pipeline, built 54 years ago which will make it easier to transport fuel.
In an interview with Phoenix News, association president Kafula Mubanga says the government should run a tender for indigenous Zambians to be able to participate by applying for the slots to access the pipeline and not allow the ministry of energy to allocate slots as the case is with the TAZANA pipeline.
Dr. Mubanga has since urged the government to be realistic in addressing the usage of the pipeline and not let it be foreign led, adding that this will be the only way the country will address the high cost of fuel pump prices.
