Govt to promote sports & tourism

President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA says government will continue providing an enabling environment for the growth of Sports and tourism.

President HICHILEMA says government will focus on developing Sports infrastructure and increase collaboration with local authorities for the betterment of sport in the country.

He says Sport must be used as a tool to create employment and foster development.

The President spoke during the launch of the Zambia Sports Expo and Forum in Lusaka being held under the theme, “Showcasing Sports Contribution to National Development.”

In a speech read for him by Youth, Sport and Arts Minister ELVIS NKANDU, President HICHILEMA also directed that the Expo be held annually with support of the national budget.

The Expo is being hosted by Zambia Diaspora Organisation and the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts.

At the same event Education Minister DOUGLAS SYAKALIMA said the ministry will soon be launching sports activities in all schools and introduce sport from early childhood to make it part of life.

And Tourism Minister RODNEY SIKUMBA said the collaboration between government and stakeholders must produce results that bring economic value as witnessed during the Barcelona Legends and Chipolopolo Legends exhibition matches.

During the launch, Zambia Diaspora Organisation President FERDINAND SIMAANYA said the event shows the power of partnerships between government and stakeholders.
