GOVT TO PROBE SLOW USE OF CDF FUNDS

Government has instituted administrative measures to address the low utilisation of Constituency Development Funds by some constituencies.

Local Government Permanent Secretary MAAMBO HAAMAUNDU says the ministry continues to engage with constituencies that are utilising the funds at a slow pace to identify the challenge.

Mr. HAAMAUNDU says following the increase in the CDF, the Government and the people expect the speedy implementation of community projects with the aim of enhancing rural development

In an interview with ZNBC News, Mr HAAMAUNDU however said the ideal plan is that all resources given in a fiscal year should be fully utilized prudently and should respond to the needs of the public .

And Zambezi East Member of Parliament BRIAN KAMBITA has called for efficiency in monitoring Constituency Development Fund projects to avoid project from stalling.

Mr. KAMBITA says inspections of programmes will ensure contractors work efficiently in constituency.

He says the CDF must change the face of rural communities and this can only be achieved with effective monitoring and inspecting progress of the CDF projects.

Mr. KAMBITA was speaking when he inspected progress on the three staff houses at Kanung’u Primary school in Zambezi district.

And Zambezi Council Secretary DULANI PHIRI said the local authority will ensure all CDF funded projects are effectively inspected to avoid stalling.
