GOVT TO ORDER 4.4 MILLION DOSES OF J&J VACCINES

Government and the World Bank has mobilized resources to procure 4.4 million doses of Johnson and Johnson vaccines.

Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary Technical Services Kennedy Malama says the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed yesterday that the vaccines are expected in the country in September 2021.

Dr. Malama says this is in addition to the 108,000 AstraZeneca doses expected this month, 120,000 expected in August and the Hundred Thousand doses of Sinopharm expected within June.

Speaking during the daily COVID-19 updates Dr. MALAMA said the vaccination programme for the second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine will resume on Wednesday.

Dr. MALAMA has called on Zambians to avail themselves, for vaccination once the opportunity comes.

Meanwhile Dr MALAMA has disclosed that the country has in the last 24 hours recorded 3,028 new confirmed COVID-19 cases out of 10,882 tests conducted.

And the country has recorded the highest Number of deaths with 53 COVID-19 Fatalities recorded.

The Permanent Secretary said the cumulative number of COVID-19 deaths now stands at 1, 744 while 1,3-94 have been discharged.
