Govt to expand agriculture credit window

By Masauso Mkwayaya

President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA says government will this year introduce more products on the Agriculture Credit Window to cover irrigation and mechanisation equipment.

President HICHILEMA says livestock and fisheries support will also be part of products farmers will access in the credit window.

The President says the measure is expected to increase production among small scale farmers, encourage value addition and build resilience against climate shocks.

President HICHILEMA said this in a speech read on his behalf by Agriculture Minister REUBEN MTOLO during the official opening of the Agritech Expo in Chisamba.

The President has also assured farmers that government has positioned itself to participate in the crop marketing to secure harvests that are available.

He says government will offer a good price for both early and rain fed maize.

And Water Development and Sanitation Minister MIKE MPOSHA says Government is working on modalities that will support irrigation.

Meanwhile, Zambia National Farmers Union -ZNFU- President JERVIS ZIMBA has asked Government to strengthen the Law regarding people found with counterfeit fertiliser and seed.
