Govt to consult widely on African Trade Deal

Mary Kachepa-Commerce Trade and Industry Minister CHIPOKA MULENGA says government will NOT sign any agreement, that will not provide gain for Zambia, as the negotiations for the provisions enshrined in the African Continental Free Trade Area continue.

Mr CHIPOKA says there are a number of provisions that are enshrined in the -ACFTA- based on trade , investment and how to do business as a single market and government will ensure that the private sector is engaged as the negotiations proceed.

He says there are few facets that need to be addressed in the provisions of the ACFTA and the private sector needs to be informed and agree on the way forward .

Mr CHIPOKA has told ZNBC News in an interview that the idea of the African Continental Free Trade Area is brilliant saying Africa must trade within itself but that Zambia must also benefit.

He said government will not sign provisions that will not support the country’s industrialisation and a private sector driven economy.
