GOVT SPENDS MORE THAN K40M TO CONSTRUCT ZARI

Government has invested more than 40 million kwacha towards the construction of the Zambia Aquaculture Research Institute.

Fisheries and Livestock Minister Nkandu Luo says the research institute will have among other facilities the fish nutrition and aquatic animal health laboratories and the fish hatchery center.

Professor Luo was speaking when she officiated at the 21st graduation ceremony of Kasaka Training Institute in Kafue.

Professor Luo says the initiative will help to create an enabling environment for the growth of the aquaculture and capture Fisheries subsector.

She emphasized the need for skilled manpower in order to achieve a resilient economy through sustainable fish production .

Professor Luo encouraged the graduates to take advantage of various aquaculture programmes that government is implementing through her ministry.

And Kasaka Training Institute acting Principal Jusitina Kalekanya has appreciated government for increasing funding towards the enhancement of the institution’s operations.

Meanwhile speaking on behalf of graduates Habakumba Colent pledged to use the knowledge he has acquired to improve the fisheries industry in the country.
