GOVT SOURCES FUNDS TO BOOST COPPER PRODUCTION AT MOPANI

President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA says government has managed to source funds that will help boost Copper production at Mopani Copper Mines and ease operations.

President HICHILEMA says Mopani is one of the mining firms that will contribute to Government’s determination to increase copper production to 3 million tonnes in ten years .

He says Government has also made progress in resolving other pertinent issues surrounding Mopani and Konkola Copper Mines -KCM- which will be unveiled to the public by the end of next month.

Speaking during a breakfast show on SUN FM in Ndola, President HICHILEMA said government is also aiming at improving operations at Lubambe , Chambeshi and also revamping operations at Luanshya Copper Mines.

He said the mining Industry is the backbone of the country’s economy and resolving issues at KCM, Mopani and Kansenseli Gold Mine in North Western Province will be beneficial to citizens and the economy.

The President also assured Zambians that the issues surrounding VEDANTA and KCM will be resolved outside court.

And President HICHILEMA said government is looking at also resolving the country’s debt that has risen to 19 billion dollars.

He said by end of next month government is aiming at signing an MOU with the committee of creditors to help with the restructuring of the country’s debt.

President HICHILEMA further said the framework will state how much the country owes and the interest frozen and amount owed when defaulted.
