Govt Seeks to Fine Tune Film Policy

August 31, 2019August 31, 20194Information and Broadcasting Services Minister Dora Siliya says government will start reviewing the national film policy to enable it to be more responsive to the current environment.Ms Siliya says all stakeholders should have an input in the process for the country to come up with a policy that will favourably support the local film makers and growth of the industry.She however notes that the national film policy that has been implemented is supporting the film industry and is contributing to the country’s socio and economic development.Ms Siliya was speaking in a speech read for her by Information Permanent Secretary Chanda Kasolo at the MultiChoice talent factory Southern Region Academy class of 2018 Movie screening held at SterKinekor in Lusaka.And ZNBC board chairperson Mulenga Kapwepwe welcomed the screening of the film Savannah skies and the painting produced by MultiChoice Academy class of 2018 in Zambia.Ms Kapwepwe said the public will be accorded an opportunity to watch African produced movies.Meanwhile, Multi Choice Talent Factory Academy Director Southern Region Berry Lwando expressed delight at the opportunity to launch feature films to an audience of industry stakeholders and films in Southern Region.And Kasama Member of Parliament Kelvin Sampa has implored stakeholders in the film industry to produce content that will reincarnate and preserve the country’s history.Mr. Sampa says the production and marketing of various arts will propel more Zambians and foreigners to take keen interest in learning more about the Zambian culture and how the country earned its independence.And director of the movie Angel Phiri said film producers need to work together to strengthen the visibility of the Zambian film industry at both local and international levels.Mr. Phiri said the world needs to hear more of Zambian stories adding that the release of Mushala part one is the genesis of more great  tales in relation to the political arenaNational Association of Media Arts president Loti Siame said the release of Mushala is a game changer for the film industry in Zambia.
