Ministry of Green Economy and Environment Permanent Secretary Douty Chibamba says Climate Smart Agriculture practices and planting fruit trees are key to ensuring Zambia’s food security amidst the drought.
Speaking after he toured small scale farmers that are practicing climate smart agriculture under the Zambia Integrated Forest Landscape Project in Chipata, Dr. Chibamba assured that his ministry will ensure the successor project expands support to more farmers in eastern province.
Dr. Chibamba is elated that the maize, soya beans and sunflower that are crop rotated, as part of climate smart agriculture practice, have performed well despite the ongoing drought.
The World Bank, Biocarbon Fund-BIOFC, and Global Environment Facility-GEF, implemented the 32.8 Million Dollars Zambia Integrated Forest Landscape Project in Eastern Province from 30th January 2018 to 29th February 2024
The development objectives of the project were to improve landscape management, increase environmental and economic benefits for targeted rural communities as well as to improve the recipients’ capacity to promptly and effectively respond to crises and emergencies.
