Govt reviewing laws

Mark Ziligone-Justice Minister, MULAMBO HAIMBE says the government is working towards reviewing and enacting some pieces of legislation to protect diverse categories of citizens including children.

Mr. HAIMBE explains that this is part of the New Dawn Government agenda to take practical legislative steps to ensure human rights are protected by law.

He adds that among the main legislative steps government is focused on is review of the Public Order Act.

Speaking during the Commemoration of the World Human Rights Day in Lusaka, Mr. HAIMBE said government will put measures to ensure the application of the act is NOT discriminatory.

He also said government will embark on constitutional reforms and subsidiary laws which would result into an enhanced economic, social and political order for the country.

And, European Union Charge D’ Affaires BRUNO HANSES appealed to the Zambian Government to reform the Public Order Act which in the past hindered opposition political parties from holding public meetings.
